Back to School

I've always loved the fall and its promise of new beginnings. Today was my oldest daughter, Michaela's, first day at her new school, the Moorestown Upper Elementary School. She seemed like such a big girl getting on the bus today with her new outfit & bulging backpack. 4th grade; it's just a little unreal. Tomorrow Matthew begins 1st grade & next week Maggie will be off to her last year of preschool. Busy, busy, busy!!! Time is just flying by. I'm making a promise to myself this fall to make some new beginnings (or at least startovers) for me too. New dance classes to teach, try to bring a little order to the chaos of my life, and a recommittment to exploring the artist in me.

Rainy Day Beauty

April Rain Song

Let the rain kiss you.
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby.

The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk.
The rain makes running pools in the gutter.
The rain plays a little sleep-song on your roof at night-

And I love rain.

Delightful Daffodils

Each day my daughter, Maggie, with great excitement checks on the daffodils in our front yard to see if any more have opened. She has been keeping close tabs on them since the first green spikes broke through the winter soil. On this sunny morning she eagerly pulled me over to count with her the three BIG daffodils that have finally made an appearance and I was reminded of one of my favorite poems from my days as a young teacher...

"March brings breezes loud and shrill, Stirs the dancing daffodil."
from The Months by Sara Coleridge

I had a fabulous Children's Literature professor in college, Gwendolyn Jones, and she encouraged us to use "the humanities!!!" as part of all our lessons. I have used this poem throughout my career; in the classroom, in newsletters, and now as inspiration for a group of delightful daffodils finds from my fellow Etsians.....

For Daddy

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower,
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief.
So dawn goes down to day,
Nothing gold can stay.
Robert Frost

Love you & miss you!!!!
